Unbound by Ann E. Burg

In the book, Unbound, by Ann E. Burg, it follows a girl named Grace. Grace and all her family are slaves. One day Grace has to leave her family to go work at their Master’s house. Grace doesn’t want to leave her family and doesn’t know what to do when she gets to the house. She soon learns what she needs to do and how she needs to do it but she still isn’t treated great. When her master’s talk about giving her away she is tempted to leave.

The problem in the story is that she has to leave her family to live with people who are going to treat her bad. She has to learn how to work harder but not to show it. She was taught to lay low and not make a scene at anytime of the day.

I would suggest this book who are interested in the time period where slavery was on its up rise. I would rate this book a four out of five because I like the story line but at parts it can be very confusing. Even though it talks about her struggles, I wish it went into more detail about her struggles in life.
